Building a Kitchen for Marcos and Liz!!!

My friend Joel form Australia introduced me to a family who lives very poorly, and he set up an idea to build a kitchen for them. The 4 of them live in a 1 room house; Father, mother, son and daughter. They have the kitchen and bunk beds and all there indoor living space in a room thats barely 10 ft sqr. And 1/8 inch plywood that makes up the walls.
So the first day we went out and dug out for the slab and mixed the concrete and poured the foundation, and then a day or two later we put up the walls.
I was told that a year ago the family was living in worse conditions and, had no car, and could barely survive. And Marcos the father somehow got a taxi and works 7 days a weeks and at all hours. Now they have a another car and can afford to pay for electricity. But we decided to bless them with some more kitchen room to help support there way of life which includes food for themselves and a kids club they do every wednesday for about 20 kids in their neighborhood.

Surfing

We had some decent swell one week so we took a day off and drove up north a little bit to a surf spot and had some fun. It is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. You have to take some crazy dirt roads to bypass paying on the toll booth, and then some more dirt roads and then you pop up on the beach to a beautiful wave!!!

El Centro

One day a group of us went to the old part of Mazatlan called El Centro and I just took some photos of the Cathedral and some wall art.

Progress on the Restaurant

So my friends parents opened up the coffee shop and now Kirk their son is starting a breakfast place next door as I mentioned before. The Breakfast place is going to be called Kirkito's, and progress on it is going well on it. We all are pitching in and working on it. We demo'd part of a block wall that was up and then built a taller wall behind it to close off the kitchen area. Then we went out to one of the beaches out here and picked up a whole bunch of rock to lay a venire over the brick. Here are some pictures of the progress...

The Looney Bean

This is the coffee shop that the family started about 5 months ago. Its not fully set up in these pics... we just opened it back up to re-seal the floors and to clean everything up to get it ready for the coming tourist season. We will prob have it ready to open by the end of the week. When the family first got the place is was just an empty box but they did all the work to make it looking really cool!
The way they run there Hostel is; if you are just down here to surf or do your own thing it costs like 12 bucks a day and that pays for all of your food that is made at the house, and full house privileges. But if you want to come and help out you can work a shift at the coffee shop which will pay that 12 dollars and you basically get to live for free. I think it is a really cool thing they have created here.

The House

Hey everyone! Here are some pictures of the house I'm staying in. It is such a cool house! We have a swimming pool, motor bikes, I share a room with another guy "Cam", and all 11 of us fit comfortably here. The Puppies name is Suki. It is definitely a blessing to be in such a nice place!!!
